This job schedules all patients for procedures based on the modality, department, length of test, and day of week. Obtains and verifies accurate identification and demographical data for the patient’s permanent medical record, and assist in accurate reimbursement. Recognizes and maintains the confidentiality of all patient information, pre-registers all scheduled procedures, and ensures accurate billing by verification and/or authorization of all accounts. Also accurately enters technical terminology for each test.

Education

Required – High School diploma or equivalent

Work Experience

Required – 1 year related hospital, clinic, medical office, business services/revenue cycle, front line registration, financial counseling, banking, hotel retail and/or customer service related position.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information. Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.

Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.

Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Job Duties

  • Greets all patients in to the hospital following department’s policies and procedures.
  • Checks to make sure that patient has physician’s order, insurance card(s) and picture identification.
  • Demonstrates respect and cooperation in all staff relationships, and a genuine willingness to prevent or resolve inter-personal conflicts.
  • Responds appropriately to questions received from the client and uses communication techniques to ascertain that the client understands instructions.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue and as part of their employment, incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid.

The incumbent works with patients who have known or suspected communicable diseases and may enter isolation rooms. The incumbent has an occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases.
