Course description:
This course introduces the Arab culture in general terms and familiarizes students with some fundamental realities of the Arab world (e.g. family, gender roles, social etiquette, etc.) with a general introduction to values and religious practices.

Estimated course enrolment: 40

Class schedule: Tusedays 13-16:00 (Online synchronous)

Sessional dates of appointment: September 1, 2021-December 31, 2021

Salary:
Sessional Lecturer I – $8489.67 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer I Long Term – $8869.25 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer II – $9085.58 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Sessional Lecturer III – $9301.90 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications:
Applicants must have a completed a graduate level degree in the relevant area of the course. Demonstrated experience teaching university-level Arabic language and cultural studies courses.

Preferred qualifications:
Demonstrated excellence in teaching. Preference will be given those with experience teaching a similar on-line language/culture course. Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.

Description of duties:
Preparation and delivery of course content (online synchronous); development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising TAs assigned to the course (if any).
