Position Summary:
PCRS is seeking a Youth Outreach Settlement Worker fluent in a second language, preferably Spanish, for the REACH Program for Youth. The successful candidate will empower and support newcomer youth ages 13-24 to overcome their challenges created by cultural and background differences. They will provide individual outreach support, in-depth assessment and one-to-one work with multi-barrier youth based on individual needs. Youth are initially identified as struggling due to multiple barriers and facing social isolation, pre-arrival trauma experience, and interruption in schooling. The position requires a solid working knowledge of the issues newcomers face arriving in Canada. This includes but is not limited to understanding the settlement process and the English Language Learner system in Canada.

Primary Duties:
Connect with multi-barrier immigrant/refugee youth through off-site outreach meetings, motivating them to address and recognize individual barriers towards independence

Provide assessment of youth’s current life skills including academic level, independent living skills, communication and social skills

Develop and implement individual wraparound plans including participant defined primary and comprehensive goals

Provide youth with one to one support to accomplish specific goals

Assist youth in identifying their essential needs, self-care, community connectedness, employment and education needs, i.e. identification documents, accommodation, resume, appropriate clothing, transportation etc.

Provide community connection support to youth through outreach and various activities that take place in the community

Provide research assistance for education and training opportunities for youth in preparation for self-development

Attend and participate in all staff meetings, committee meetings and Society staff meetings

Liaise with contract partner agencies and referring agencies and other professionals as required

Work Conditions:
Hours are based on a flexible schedule. Workers should be available to work evenings and potentially weekends. There may be a need for earlier or later hours depending upon circumstances to offer support to youth at critical times.

Travel between multiple sites in the community

Academic and Job Experience Required:
Relevant post-secondary degree (Child and Youth Work, Education, Psychology, Social Work) or Child & Youth Care Diploma, plus two years of experience working with at-risk youth populations, or a combination of related education and work experience with youth

Fluent in Spanish and Arabic is strongly preferred

Basic Requirements:
Criminal record check including the vulnerable sector

Standard first-aid certificate and CPR Use of own vehicle required. Paid mileage

Class 4 or 5 driver’s license with Business Use Insurance

Driver’s Abstract must be submitted

Desired Requirements:
Experience working with immigrant/refugee youth struggling with the settlement and navigating through cultural and family dynamics

Experience providing 1-to-1 case management

Skilled in Motivational Interviewing and Mental Health Training

Salary Range: $25.71/hour – $28.43/hour, Plus benefit package (100% employer-paid)
