Applications are invited to apply for a part-time Advanced Intermediate Youth Worker position at BGC Ottawa. The incumbent will work at our Tomlinson Family Foundation Clubhouse. This position reports to the Clubhouse Manager.
Compensation: $16.30 per hour

Position Overview
Working closely with YDPSs, the Advanced Intermediate Youth Worker will play a supportive role in assisting in the delivery of exceptional programs and positive leadership for children and youth.
Intermediate Youth workers assist in the planning, organizing and delivery of BGCO programs that are designed to develop assets and facilitate the personal, social and emotional development of young people between the ages of 6-18.
Responsibilities:
– Direct leadership in assigned programs
– Implementing structured programs an assisting with special events
– Create activity programs for children and youth
– Provide monthly updates including attendance figures and program outcomes
– Be a positive role model for children and youth
– Support volunteers and program placement students
– Liaise with parents and caregivers regarding progress and challenges of participants
– Provide mentoring services and assistance with counseling support to members as required
– Attend monthly staff meetings
– Attend training opportunities as required
Education:
– Enrolled in or completed post-secondary education
– Recognized certification in first aid
– HIGH FIVE certificate is an asset
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
– Minimum 2 years of part-time direct leadership experience in a child and youth-related field studies or Recreation and Leisure Services program
– Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
– Demonstrated C&Y mentoring and counseling skills.
– Ability to work effectively with children and youth.
– Demonstrated organizational and program planning skills.
– Demonstrated direct leadership skills (in program instruction capacity)
– Demonstrated conflict resolution skills.
– Ability to take initiative and work both independently and within a team environment with minimal supervision.
– Proven ability to engage children in programming activities.
– Demonstrated ability to creatively problem solve.
– Previous experience working with youth in afterschool programs and/or summer camps considered an asset.
– Experience in delivering physical activity, sport and recreation activities would be considered an asset
– Valid Driver’s License and comfortable driving members to/from events is considered an asset
– Experience delivering creative arts programming considered an asset
– Experience delivering sports and recreation programming considered an asset
– Multilingualism is an asset (French, Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin)
