Job Title: Senior Quantity Surveyor
Role Summary:
The Senior Quantity Surveyor is responsible for managing all commercial, contractual, and financial aspects of major construction and infrastructure projects. This role involves cost estimation, contract administration, commercial risk management, claims, and supporting project delivery to maximize profitability and minimize risk for the company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the administration, negotiation, and management of contracts and subcontracts, ensuring compliance with commercial terms and conditions.
- Prepare and review cost estimates, budgets, and cash flow forecasts throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage and value variations, claims, and change orders, including preparation, negotiation, and settlement with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
- Oversee interim and final payment applications, ensuring timely submission and certification.
- Analyse project costs, monitor financial progress, and prepare regular commercial reports for senior management.
- Support procurement and tendering processes, including supplier and subcontractor evaluation and appointment.
- Provide commercial input to project teams, advising on risk, value engineering, and cost-saving opportunities.
- Prepare, review, and agree final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
- Ensure robust contract and commercial documentation and maintain audit-ready records.
- Liaise with legal, finance, and project management teams to resolve commercial and contractual issues.
- Assist in dispute resolution, including the preparation of claims, supporting documentation, and participation in negotiations or adjudications.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field. (Master’s or professional certification preferred.)
- Minimum 7 years’ experience as a quantity surveyor with strong commercial expertise, ideally in construction/infrastructure/aviation.
- Excellent understanding of contract law and standard forms of contract (such as FIDIC, JCT, NEC).
- Strong commercial acumen and experience managing project budgets, costs, and claims.
- Proven negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Proficiency in quantity surveying and commercial software/tools.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
