The Opportunity:
Working within our Counselling Services Department, the Clinical Counsellor will provide culturally safe and agile counselling, outreach and educational services to immigrants and refugees within their value systems. Our programs directly address the needs of immigrants, refugees and other racialized communities in their adjustment to the changes, challenges, and losses that accompany immigration to a new country. This role will specifically support the needs of newcomer women, children and members of LGBTQ2S+ communities who have experienced Intimate partner and/ family violence in their lives.

The Counsellor will support the Health Promotion Department as well as the Violence Prevention Programs.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide intake and screening to clients;

Complete assessments of children, youth, women and their families who are experienced and/ or have survived family violence;

Assist clients with service goals based on the assessment;

Make referrals to other services as needed;

Provide individual counseling to the client and/or individual family members using basic counselling techniques and Best Practices;

Provide group counselling for youth, families and/ or individuals as appropriate;

Submit monthly statistics and write program reports as required;

Attend team and staff meetings, and case review meetings as required;

Meet with the Clinical Supervisor and/ or Program Manager for case consultation and review;

Work closely with other community agencies to promote collaboration and cooperation in delivery of service to newcomer women who are victims of abuse/violence;

Support the development of clinical support(s) tailored to the needs of self-identified women and members of LGBTQ2S+ communities through collaboration with internal and external partners

Establish and maintain non-judgmental therapeutic relationships with clients, and collaborate and consult with colleagues and other community resources;

Work cooperatively with the clinical services team.

Mandatory Qualifications:
Master’s degree in an Allied Health Discipline (Counselling Psychology, Social Work, etc.) from a recognized program;

A minimum of 2-years of recent relevant experience working with LGBTQ2S+ clients or a similar population, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Qualified candidates will also posses:
Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) designation from the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors is preferred. Individuals in the process of obtaining their designation may be considered;

Lived and living experience with/within LGBTQ2S+ community is an asset and/ or extensive experience of allyship and work alongside members of LGBTQ2S+ communities;

Knowledge of LGBTQ2S+ communities is advantageous;

Demonstrated ability to conduct needs based Information and Orientation sessions with LGBTQ2S+ immigrant and refugee populations;

Knowledge of the refugee experience and refugee settlement issues and knowledge of community agencies, services and resources, especially in the communities of Surrey, North Delta and/or Langley;

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

Fluency in one of the primary contract languages (Punjabi, Mandarin, Farsi, Arabic or Spanish) is an asset;

Experience facilitating groups;

Strong computer skills, including Microsoft suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams);

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently;

Class 5 BC Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.

A criminal record check is required as a part of this process.
