Office Location: YMCA Centre for Immigrant Programs, 7071 Bayers Road Halifax, NS Unit 104

We are looking for a dynamic and passionate Project Facilitator & Assistant to support the Gender-Based Violence Prevention Project in working to enhance the knowledge and skills of both service providers in the community as well as working directly with newcomer clients of all ages in gender-based violence prevention.

The Opportunity

As the Project Facilitator & Assistant, you will play an integral role in the development and facilitation of programming, workshops, events and presentations around gender-based violence awareness and prevention with newcomers of all ages as well as professional development training for service providers. This position will strategically collaborate and maintain relationships with key client groups, community agencies and other stakeholders. To support the projects goals and ongoing work this position will support the administrative and logistical tasks and promotional outreach.

Key Responsibilities:
Working with Newcomers around Gender-Based Violence Prevention

Develop and facilitate culturally sensitive and trauma-informed presentations, workshops, and program activities for newcomer clients of all ages to raise awareness on: GBV and contributing factors, prevention themes and supports and services.

Create opportunities where newcomers can engage in sharing their own wisdom, skills and ideas to be part of prevention and awareness.

Outreach and recruitment of newcomer clients for programming, workshops, and events.

Maintain the GBVP Social Media platforms to maintain communication and awareness.

Collaborate across YMCA programs to deliver place-based programming to meet newcomer clients needs.

Design and create promotional materials in the form of posters, videos and social media posts to recruit participants.

Training Service Providers in Intercultural Approaches to GBV with newcomer communities

Develop, design, and facilitate workshops and presentations for service providers to develop their capacity and understanding on working with newcomers around gender-based violence prevention.

Design and develop promotional material for programming and reporting.

Outreach and network with community partners and relevant agencies and maintain relationships of key stakeholders.

Coordinate and organize logistics of presentations, registration, project information and other materials distribution.

Source current resources and information about events, networks, campaigns and issues related to gender-based violence prevention.

Program Support and Administration

Provide logistical support to the GBVP Project Team including but not limited to -emails, notes from workshop sessions, follow up information, support expenses, reporting.

Practice flexibility about adding unexpected tasks to your list and following up thoroughly with limited information in consultation with supervisor

Communicate well with Project Coordinator to update about curriculum development and presentations

Support the Manager and Coordinator with committee work as required such as taking minutes, preparing communications and activity support for the National Strategy.

Support National initiative as required with technical, logistical, and networking contributions ex. Event planning, editing and content development on activities.

We are looking for someone with:
Strong understanding of Gender-Based Violence, prevention, and best practices

Knowledge in applying: Trauma informed, anti-racist and anti oppressive practices

Lived experience as a newcomer who can bring their wisdom, experience and knowledge to this position or experience working directly with newcomers.

Being Multilingual would be an asset (particularly in Arabic)

Facilitation experience with multiple types of stakeholders including newcomers, youth and service providers

Experience facilitating groups of youth

Strong cross-cultural verbal/written communication and presentation skills

Robust understanding, and sensitivity to issues affecting immigrant and refugee communities

Intermediate to Advanced skills in using Microsoft Office Skills (i.e. Excel, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint etc.), ZOOM or video conferencing applications and Social Media.

Graphic Design knowledge including: Adobe suite, photo shop, illustrator etc. Experience with Outlook 365 email usage also an asset

Demonstrated ability to discuss difficult social issues and generate positive responses with Supervisor

High level of initiative, adaptability, and commitment to quality

Demonstrated ability to meet multiple, competing deadlines

Availability to work some evening and weekend hours and flexibility to accommodate variations outside of regular business hours, as needed.

Bachelor’s Degree in a Social Work, Gender Studies, Adult Education, Public Health is an considered an asset or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Note: Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and proof of valid First Aid and CPR training. Employees will be required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training.
