The British Embassy Baghdad currently has a vacancy for an Electrician Assistant, job grade S1
The Electrician Assistant supports licensed electricians in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems throughout the entire BEB compound. The role involves preparing tools and materials, assisting with wiring, performing several tasks under supervision, and ensuring safety procedures are followed on site.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Electrical Installation and Support: Assist in the installation of electrical and lighting systems across the compound. This includes running wiring, conduits, and installing circuit breakers, switches, sockets, street lighting, security lighting, and emergency lighting. You will support the lead electrician in setting up systems safely and efficiently.
- Maintenance and Repairs: Support routine and emergency maintenance tasks, including inspections and repairs of lighting fixtures, electrical panels, distribution boards, water heaters, electrical motors, and other appliances. Promptly respond to maintenance requests and assist in ensuring continued system functionality.
- Emergency Response and Fault Handling: Respond to emergency calls related to power outages, equipment failure, or electrical faults. Provide support during urgent repairs and temporary solutions, helping restore service with minimal disruption.
- Equipment Connections and Technical Assistance: Assist in connecting heavy electrical equipment such as HVAC systems, pumps, and machinery to designated power sources. You will also support troubleshooting efforts alongside the lead technician.
- Preventive Planned Maintenance (PPM): Perform scheduled PPM activities for electrical systems such as fire alarms and emergency lighting. This includes basic servicing and flagging issues to the electrician supervisor for corrective action.
- Compliance and Safety: Follow safety guidelines and protocols while working on live or inactive electrical systems. Use appropriate PPE and adhere to safety regulations to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Other Duties Carry out any other tasks as requested by management or the supervisor, supporting the electrical team and wider technical department as needed.
The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible as specific responsibilities could change in the future, and this would be at the discretion of the line manager and Senior Management. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs. The jobholder may also take on other ad hoc tasks as and when required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any response to a crisis.

Eligibility:

- You have (or be willing to obtain) the right to live and work in Iraq. Candidate”s residence permit and work permit, and the expense to obtain them, will be their own responsibility – the Embassy does not provide residence or work permits. Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in electrical installation and maintenance systems.
- Familiarity with electrical components, tools, and safety procedures.
- Good understanding of electrical systems, tools, and safety practices.
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions carefully.
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and time management.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Customer-service oriented with good communication skills.
- Valid Full drivers licence
- Willingness to attend training or certification programs.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
- Enrolment in or completion of an electrical vocational training (preferred).
- Relevant certification in electrical systems

Working hours and remuneration:
The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including up to 21 days of annual leave (calculated pro-rata).
The role grade is S1 with a base salary of US $ 1,422 per month. This base salary is paid 13 times a year. In addition, the role attracts a security allowance payable as part of this package. This security allowance is subject to review and may be altered or withdrawn at any time.
No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
This position is for a full-time employment on a permanent contract basis. Employment is also subject to a 90-day probationary period.
Conditioned working hours are 38 hours per week. Normal working hours are Sunday to Wednesday from 08:00 to 16:00 and Thursday from 08:00-14:00. The jobholder will be required to be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out of hours (evenings/ weekends/ holidays), and emergency on call hours.
The jobholder will have work performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. They will be exposed to dust, noise, and hazardous materials (with PPE provided). The job may involve climbing ladders, lifting heavy equipment, and standing for long periods. This job will require overtime, weekend, or emergency call-out work.
