The core function of Hospital Medical Director is to ensure and enhance patient safety, quality of care and patient experience in the designated facilities. The post – holder will provide leadership to ensure effective systems are in place to monitor and improve clinical performance of the healthcare team. The post-holder will bridge the gap between Facility Medical Staff, Facility and Cluster Clinical Leadership. He / she will take on an active role with organizational accreditations and certifications.

  • Take on a Leadership role within the Facility and ensure patient safety and quality of care is upheld to the highest standards.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of NMC Vision, Strategy and Business Objectives as a senior clinical leader.
  • Have responsibilities related to strategy, which can impact facility’s short-term and long-term vision.
  • Medical Director can be responsible for developing and monitoring the clinical strategic objectives and contributing to the strategic objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal and local (Emirate) laws and regulations.
  • Encourage collaboration and engagement among internal staff and stakeholders including NMC Group-level Leadership, Regulatory Bodies etc.
  • Support Governance Committees including but not be limited to morbidity and mortality, quality & patient safety, medical complaints, sentinel and adverse events reporting, infection control, accreditation, clinical privileging, and pharmacovigilance.
  • Serve as primary advisor to the Facility Operations, case management and clinical management regarding health, quality, and safety issues.
  • Assure policy and procedures are in place to optimize clinical efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ensure the ethical medical practice is always maintained and where necessary take action when compromised.
  • Build a culture of respect, trust and professionalism among Medical Staff which is represented by fairness, integrity, and non-discrimination.
  • Oversee several areas related to human resources of Clinical Staff. These include:
    • Hiring and privileging Medical Staff
    • Training of Medical Staff and healthcare providers,
    • Evaluating employee performance
    • Appointment ad-hoc panel for reviews / investigations.
  • Provide clinical direction to Medical Staff including Community-Based Doctors.
  • Facilitating communication among clinicians and Regulatory bodies.
  • Be available to staff to discuss clinical cases or internal matters for service improvement.
  • Support medical education and training, scientific and research activities.
  • Facilitate and analyze (internal and external) audit / inspection results and direct improvement plans to ensure standards (Regulatory, Accreditation, NMC) for patient care are met.
  • Ensure the management and timely reporting of sentinel events to the appropriate Bodies.
  • Develop, implement and monitor preventative measures to reduce medical and clinical complaints.
  • Participate / Lead as a responsible member of the Facility’s clinical management team and other work / quality / safety related Committees.
  • Initiate, guide & participate in the hospital’s continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Have a wide range of financial and budgeting responsibilities to take sure a facility’s finances facilitate patient care strategy effectiveness.
  • Interacting with patients who may be dissatisfied with their care/ Regulatory complaints.
  • Report to the competent authority for any issues that are a threat to patient safety or the public.
  • Ensure confidentiality and comply with data protection norms.
  • Provides leadership, vision, and direction in developing new medical service delivery areas for the facility; directs, monitors and evaluates programs, revising and adapting as necessary and/or appropriate; assists in formulation and/or revision of medical program/clinical services policies and protocols.
  • The duties are not exhaustive, and reasonable modifications can be made from time to time to meet the needs of the service.
  • Any additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Regional Medical Director.

Education

  • Basic Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized medical school.
  • Postgraduate medical qualification such as:
  • Board Certification (e.g., American Board, CCT, FRCP, Arab Board)
  • Fellowship/Master’s degree in a medical specialty relevant to women’s and/or pediatric care is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years clinical experience post-qualification.
  • At least 3–5 years of experience in a leadership/administrative role, such as Head of Department, Clinical Director, or Medical Director.
