The role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Commissioning Engineer to join our Iraq Business Unit.

This Project aims to take over the existing asset and maximize the production in 2 phases. This is a fast-track project and schedule-oriented Design to enhance the production.

The Phase 1 will restore, upgrade, and develop the current plant (CPF1) including: Restoration of initial CPF1 capacity; building a new export pipeline (24”, ~30km); restoration of CPF1 integrity and operability; flaring elimination and released water; development of new flowlines, pads, and electrification network for approximately 30 new wells; debottlenecking of the plant; upgrade of the Safety and Security facilities.

Our scope is to provide Engineering, Procurement services and Construction assistance (EPsCa) for the initial development phase of the field in Southern Iraq. The scope of services includes FEED, detailed design, procurement support, and construction and commissioning assistance.

Job Objectives/Project context:

The project is a gas plant located in Iraq, delivered under a DBOOM (Design, Build, Own, Operate, Maintain) contract. The Construction phase and Mechanical Completion are ongoing, Commissioning to be started very sooner. An experienced reinforcement is required to support the Commissioning & Start-Up Manager, drive contractors across all disciplines and accelerate activities in fast-track mode, with no compromise on safety or quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring & driving: Ensure day-to-day monitoring of contractors’ progress across all disciplines (ICSS, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, HVAC, utilities…).
  • Acceleration: Challenge contractors, identify bottlenecks, enforce priorities and push teams to meet commissioning milestones.
  • Methodology: ORBIT methodology is considered for this project for the follow up of (subsystems, ITR, punch lists, MC/RFCC, completion dossiers).
  • Documentation: To make sure of the readiness of procedure and dossier to be ready for the activities. Review and validate commissioning procedures, JSA, energization dossiers, LoTo, PSSR…And to prepare all the handover of the phase Precom – Commissioning.
  • Coordination: Coordinate Mechanical Completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up activities while securing interfaces and SIMOPS.
  • Reporting: Run daily and weekly review meetings with Construction, CSU and Company Representative.
  • Handover: Deliver the closure of punch lists (A/B), remarks clearance and handover to operations.

Expected:

  • Engineering degree (MSc / BSc) in chemical, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation engineering or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Experience: Minimum 15 years of experience in commissioning and start-up of Oil & Gas / LNG / petrochemical facilities.
  • Projects: Proven track record on at least two (2) gas plant, LNG or refinery projects delivered in fast-track mode.
  • Methodology: knowledge of OPERCOM and Orbit is a plus.
  • Environment: Previous experience working for a major international operator and managing multi-discipline contractors.

Technical Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of subsystems, ITR, MC, RFCC, punch lists and system completion.
  • Full command of HSE, ATEX, PtW, LoTo, safety inhibition and PSSR procedures.
  • Strong understanding of process equipment, rotating, HV/LV electrical, F&G, ESD/PSD and ICSS systems.
  • Proficiency with completion management tools (ICAPS or equivalent).

  • Leadership: Ability to challenge contractors and enforce priorities.
  • Adaptability: Comfort in fast-track, multicultural and high-pressure environments.
  • Rigor: Strong reporting discipline, documentation rigor and clear communication.
  • Diplomacy: Team spirit and diplomacy at Company / EPC / Vendor interfaces.

Languages:

  • Fluent professional English (mandatory).
  • French appreciated. Arabic is a plus.

  • Site-based assignment in Iraq, Rotational.
