Laundry Attendant

The Laundry Attendant will be assigned to Union III, Baghdad, Iraq. The Laundry Attendant position reports to the Laundry Supervisor and will be responsible for working with an FN and LN staff that performs washing, uniform pressing, and minor alterations for the Union III residents and transients ensuring quality services are provided in accordance with program requirements. The additional duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive:

  • Ensure that all operations in the laundry are carried out according to the PWS with the laundry SOP.
  • Ensure quality controls are in place for all processes, rejecting any exceptions.
  • Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of the facility.
  • Assist the Laundry Supervisor with day-to-day duties.
  • Oversee the labeling and loading of carts.
  • Ensure a clean and tidy linen room at all times and report to the management if any items have been damaged (linen as well as uniforms).
  • Report to Laundry Supervisor in case any item is lost and found.
  • Ensure that no laundry bag is lost. Make recommendations to the Site Services Manager on how to avoid such cases.
  • Ensure that linen and uniforms are properly stored and recorded.
  • Ensure that the proper procedure is followed when linen needs to be discarded.
  • Ensure proper loading and unloading of dryers, and also setting proper temperature for different items that require drying.
  • Receive records and oversee sorting of clean uniform from laundry and arrange them properly on the shelves and racks.
  • Ensure team members adhere to all Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Keep and update the Laundry / linen report on a daily basis.
  • Take linen which is spotted out and place separately for re-washing or special treatments.
  • Attends and participates in safety training and other types of training as requested.
  • Recommends equipment, item and chemical purchasing needs to Laundry Supervisor.
  • Recommend methods to improve the laundry service.
  • Assists in standardizing the method in which laundry tasks will be performed.
  • resolve customer service issues quickly and effectively.
  • Responsible for the proper running of equipment and proper amounts of chemicals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and able to carry out any other reasonable task set by the management

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • The ideal candidate will have some Bulk Laundry experience in an overseas and / or military environment.

REQUIRED:

  • Education: A high school diploma or GED (General Education Diploma)
  • Language Skills: Strong professional English communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Medical: Favorable passage of a drug screen and physical examination
  • Liscenses and Certifications: Valid HOR driver’s liscense.

DESIRED:

  • Relevant overseas Base Life Support experience, preferably in the Middle East
  • Experience working with PAE.
  • Understand and speak some arabic.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of ALL principles and processes involved in operating and supporting a laundry facility with a heightened emphasis on hospitality, customer service, team work, and cultural sensitivity for the Iraqi people.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer services.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules.
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills..
  • Must have the ability to be innovative and be an agent for change.
  • Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information.

WORKING AND LIVING CONDITIONS:

This position may be located in a war zone, in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment. Temperatures can reach 120- 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50-55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere, extreme environment, as well as willing and able to deploy to Iraq for extended periods. Work schedules are a minimum of 6 days per week and 10 hours per day, while some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
