BGC Ottawa Overview:
BGC Ottawa (BGCO) is a leading children and youth social service organization providing extensive programming support in Ottawa. Providing free services and access to children and youth, BGC Ottawa serves an average of 4,500 children and youth (aged 6 to 18 years) currently with eight locations, a virtual Clubhouse, and a summer Camp.

Position Details:
The BGC Ottawa is seeking applications for a full time Senior Manager, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Reporting directly to the Chief Programs Officer, the successful candidate will undertake a leadership role in the implementation of the organization’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan (EDI Action Plan) over the course of 2 years with the possibility of renewal. This is a senior leadership role in the Programs department and will require collaboration across all departments.
Compensation: $65,000 – $80,000; based on experience and education
Start Date: September 2021
Position Responsibilities:
– Lead and coordinate the implementation, revision and evaluation of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan including the development of an organization-wide accountability framework that clarifies outcomes and expectations.
– Incorporate key strategies across departments related to policies, practices and procedures that promote an anti-racism and anti-oppression approach to operations.
– Provide expert EDI advice and guidance to the agency’s leadership and Programs teams.
– Support in the development and delivery of internal and external strategic communication of progress made with the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan among BGC Ottawa community partners.
– Enhance and support the EDI service excellence and consistency in all phases of programming and services to children and youth in Ottawa.
– Advance BGC Ottawa’s EDI agenda through advocacy, responsive programming and respectful collaboration, partnerships and capacity building.
– Provide leadership and coordination of appropriate EDI staff resources (including appropriate staff, EDI committee and training).
– Identify, initiate, and lead specific EDI-related interventions and special projects as appropriate.
– Provide management leadership and direction to appropriate staff in all relevant operational areas: recruitment, supervision, performance management, documentation and planning.
– Compliance with agency policies, procedures, and pertinent legislation.
– Perform other related duties as required.
Education/Experience:
– University degree/College diploma and/or related experience in academic discipline (e.g. Social Work, Environmental and Urban Change, Health or Education).
– 6+ years’ experience in the non-profit sector including specific responsibility for teambuilding, organizational change, increasing organizational capacity, program and staff development.
– Established track record of implementing similar strategic plans related to anti-racism and anti-oppression.
– HIGH FIVE PHCD (Principles of Healthy Child Development) and/or HIGH FIVE Sport training certificate.
– Standard First Aid/CPR certification
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
– Strong knowledge of anti-racism and anti-oppression principles and practices.
– Seasoned management experience in the social service area.
– Knowledge of critical EDI issues impacting children, youth, and families in Ottawa’s diverse communities.
– Demonstrated understanding of organizational change dynamics.
– Knowledge of and sensitivity to clinical, programming and community issues affecting youth (mental health, addictions, behavioural).
– Demonstrated ability to train, motivate, supervise and lead staff while demanding service excellence and performance accountability.
– Demonstrated ability to work with large budgets effectively.
– Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and partnerships with community partners.
– Ability to organize and manage a diverse range of assignments and projects with high efficiency.
– Highly developed attention to detail and analytical skills
– Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.
– Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically and be long term goal oriented.
– Proven ability to work with others in meeting departmental objectives.
– Demonstrated knowledge of program evaluation and outcome measures.
– Strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to adapt information for different audiences.
– Proficient in use of information technology such as mobile devices, computer systems, collaboration tools, database applications, MS Office Suite and other technological tools.
– Ability to speak a second language in French, Somali, Chinese, or Arabic is an asset.

– Ability to work outside of normal business hours to attend meetings and meet deadlines.
