About the Position:
The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley’s performing arts center, and recreational facilities.
Responsibilities
You will research jihadi ideology and jihadi use of the internet and social media.
You will use primary source material from sources to conduct expert analysis of jihadi communications, objectives, and operations, in support of Combatting Terrorism Center (CTC) research projects.
You will interact with both high-level policymakers and counterterrorism practitioners.
You will translate material from English to Arabic and vice versa.

This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.

This is full-time term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 13 months. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term. As a term employee you will be eligible for medical insurance, life insurance, retirement, dental and vision. You will be eligible to earn annual leave and sick leave.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor’s degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience – courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be evaluated on the following: 1) Demonstrated ability to research, specifically publications analyzing jihadi terrorist actors and groups, and experience researching jihadi ideology, Middle East policy and culture, and Iran-supported militant groups; 2) Experience accessing and analyzing online jihadi activity, including via protected web forums, social media apps, and other jihadi media sources; 3) Experience translating (speaking, reading and writing) the Modern Standard Arabic language into the English language and vice versa. Fluency is also required in Arabic dialects (to include Iraqi, Egyptian, Levantine, Libyan, Sudanese, North Mesopotamian, and Gulf Arabic); 4) Experience briefing senior leaders; and, 5) Experience working in a counterterrorism field with expert knowledge in terrorism, counterterrorism, jihadism, and political/security dynamics of the Middle East.
