DESCRIPTION

BCI is seeking terminally degreed (PhD) faculty in translation or interpreting studies who are leaders in their fields of study and who have previous experience teaching university level courses in translation or interpreting in an online platform. Previous experience teaching international students (notably Middle Eastern students) is desired.Preference will be given to candidates who meet the following qualifications: Ability to teach computer-assisted translation (CAT) courses and other online / hybrid courses in applied translation and interpreting.

Successful candidates will adhere to all BCI faculty expectations, including but not limited to:

Participating in the online classroom a minimum of five days per week, including one weekend day.

Conducting a minimum of seven live, hour-long lectures per term using Blackboard Collaborate.

Grading and providing detailed feedback on all assignments (critical thinking assignments and discussion board) within 72 hours of assignment due date. This includes in-depth feedback specific to the critical thinking assignment rubrics.

Actively responding to student emails and requests within 24 hours.

Skills and Qualifications:
Communicate effectively with students via Blackboard or similar Learning Management System (LMS).

Be a scholar in the field of applied translation or interpreting studies with practical and proven experience in working in-house or freelance in translation or/and interpreting. Preferred additional qualifications are listed below:

Experience in teaching Arabic-English translation or interpreting at graduate levels in technology enhanced instructional environments: online or face to face.Certification is strongly preferred.

Active participation in regional and international academic conferences delivering communications in the areas of applied translation or interpreting..

Membership in recognized professional translation/interpreting organization(s).

Publication in peer-reviewed journals on topics related to terminology management; translation technologies, localisation; translator/interpreter training; interpreting studies and audio-visual translation.

Experience in developing and teaching Arabic-English translation and interpreting courses and be familiar with distance learning pedagogy and platforms.

Experience teaching or working in universities in the Middle East is a plus.

Additional Information:
BCI/International program courses are 16 weeks in length, currently taught in two sessions per year.

Course appointments are awarded on a term-to-term basis.

Employment is considered part-time on a per-assignment basis.

Compensation is competitive and is based on student enrollment.
