Position Status: 35 hours a week

Salary: $18.81/hr

A Day in the Life

As the Express Settlement Services staff, you will be responsible for responding to the immediate settlement needs of clients at the YMCA Centre for Immigrant Programs. These positions will provide support around non-crisis, routine, settlement questions. The expectation is that these brief and immediate interventions will allow for ‘in-person’ needs to be addressed and/or appropriately referred to YMCA and/or other community resources for more in depth follow up as required.

This job might be for you if you have:

  • Experience working in a community or service centre environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to speak Arabic an asset and/or other languages
  • Knowledge of the settlement sector and issues impacting newcomers to Nova Scotia.
  • Robust understanding and connection to a variety of community services and resources
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Effective and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
  • High level of initiative and ability needed to work independently and respond to unanticipated items.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate client needs outside of regular business hours maybe required on occasion.

Note: Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and proof of valid Standard First Aid and level C CPR training. Employees will be required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training.
