Greening and development of Al-Yarmouk Park through the setup of an on-the-job Horticulture Training and Planting Programme for Women in Mosul, Nineveh Governorate
Support the recovery and sustainable return of Mosul inhabitants through an area integrated project that hinges on the restoration of an essential public open space in a city disrupted by the years of war and conflict with ISIL, with an emphasis on the capacity building of women and job creation in horticulture and tree planting to improve the living condition of women in the targeted area as partners of development.
The Implementing Partner (NGO) will be undertaking main activities as follows (but not limited to):
Output 1: Organisation of a “Horticulture Training Programme for Women”.
Activities:
- Developing a 10 days vocational training course for women comprising of core lessons in general horticulture in close consultation with Agriculture Department in Mosul University, Nineveh Agriculture Department and Mosul Municipality (as per the training description) and by recruiting professional trainers based on the identified needs and available capacities of the target group. The selection, ToR and recruiting process of the trainers will be in consultation with UN-Habitat.
- Organizing theoretical and practical training sessions in an open-air setting at Al-Yarmouk park by supplying (tables, tent, chairs, sound system, data show, screen, electricity source, etc).
- Selecting 30 trainees according to specific selection criteria developed in coordination with UN-Habitat according the existing databases and interviewes with the candidates (resident of the targeted area, women headed HHS, poor living condition, primary school degree, physical ability, job aspirations, age between 25-50, etc).
Output 2: Greening, revegetation and landscaping of Al-Yarmouk park
Activities:
- Supply of trees, shrubs and grass for Al-Yarmouk park inclusive of transportation, soil preparation, planting and watering according to the BoQ, list of tree and shrubs and areas indicated in the map for planting.
- Removal of any solid waste or debris, levelling of terrain, and provision of new topsoil suitable for grass in designated areas.
- Supply of all construction materials, labour and equipment required for the rehabilitation of the existing water well and construction of new well in Al-Yarmouk park preferably by specialized government Well digging entity. All new materials and equipment will be sourced from the local market and from Iraqi producers (unless unavailable) to stimulate the local economy.
- Implement main irrigation network for Al-Yarmouk Park (drip and Sprinkler) as per the BoQ.
OUTPUT 5: Communications & Visibility
- Taking numerous and good quality photos and short video clips throughout the implementation of the project, horticulture activities and final events. The photos and videos, to be used on social media, will record the progress of the work and all open-air activities, with a strong focus on the labourers and the community members – in particular children and youth (not the UN-Habitat team or the Implementing Partner). The hiring of a professional photographer and/or video maker dedicated to this purpose is highly recommended.
- Making of 3 videos (4 minutes each): (1) a video dedicated to the greening and plantation works; (2) a video focusing entirely on the horticulture activities, events and citizens’ participation; and (3) a human story video focusing on a women after receiving a training on horticulture. The videos will need to include branding and English subtitles.
