Social Media Researcher- Global Technology Programs

OVERVIEW
Internews is seeking temporary consultants to support our efforts to address the online and offline impacts of harmful speech. The primary goal of this project is to contextualize and understand the societal impacts of harmful speech, thereby enabling researchers, non-governmental organizations, and platforms to develop a more targeted response to ongoing discourses. Our teams will help identify and understand harmful speech trends on social media that risk impacting human rights on the ground.
The ideal candidates are well-informed and able to provide robust context, analysis, and forecasts of the implications of harmful speech both online and offline.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required

  • Strong understanding of the languages, politics, history and media of the countries/ regions for which they are responsible, along with a high level of interest in global current affairs;
  • Qualitative data collection and analysis skills including rumor tracking and social media monitoring;
  • Demonstrable ability to effectively navigate a range of social media platforms;
  • Good understanding of social media community standards and guidelines;
  • Strong ability to maintain neutrality, impartiality, and objectivity;
  • Understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.

Preferred

  • Good written and spoken English, a keen eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy;
  • Experience in journalism, communications, advocacy, or research;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to present complex information and ideas clearly and concisely;
  • Relevant experience working with data collection & analysis software, including Air Table, Kobo Collect, MSExcel and similar software;
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
