Strategic Advisor

We are looking for a publishing consultant who will work closely with international editors to help them achieve goals for improvement and help manage strategic planning for their journals. The Strategic Advisor will combine a strong understanding of publishing together with the features and services provided by the Digital Commons journals platform.

Digital Commons is the leading platform for Diamond Open Access journal publishing platform used by over 600 institutions to host over 2500 institutionally published journals.

Main Activities and Responsibilities:

Manage implementation and launch of Premier Journals

• Coordinate with the Digital Commons team to ensure successful launch
• Liaise with previous platforms and publishers as necessary for transfer process
• Manage schedules and ensure timely launch

Advise on publishing best practices

• Advise on journal policy, ethics standards, author rights and other information needed for journal set-up
• Ongoing advising on best practices in open access and publishing

Provide insights and strategic counseling to editors on an ongoing basis

• Support with indexing applications
• Ongoing monitoring of journal indexes to make sure journal content is updated
• Provide regular reports and analysis, pulling data from Scopus, Scival, Digital Commons reports, and other data sources
• Provide recommendations on next steps for improvement to achieve indexing and performance goals.

Conduct editor workshops, present at conferences, attend trainings

• Conduct onsite editor workshops and trainings for Premier customers
• Present at customer gatherings and relevant conferences as needed
• Develop presentations that can be adapted for use by editors during editorial board meetings

Support coordination across Elsevier organization

• Liaise with Marketing, Sales, Product, Publishing to ensure coordination of service messaging
• Assess incoming customers for fit with services, identify additional needs
• Nurture reference customers for Marketing, help support growth of community
• Escalate requests, risks as appropriate

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experiences

• 3-5 years’ experience working in publishing, academic research, analysis, or related environments
• Fluency in English and Arabic: appropriate for academic audiences
• Ability to develop analysis and reports from various qualitative and quantitative sources
• Skilled at project management
• Experienced creating presentations, reports in PPT and Excel
• Comfortable working with international clients and able to travel as required
• Self-starter, confident working with academic audiences and highly-placed faculty
• Comfortable with public speaking
• Strong attention to detail
• Academic or publishing background is preferred
• Graduate degree is preferred, but not essential
