Strategic Category Manager

The Kinross Corporate Head Office is located in downtown Toronto and supports Kinross’ operations and projects worldwide. Corporate functions include Finance, Procurement, Health & Safety, Human Resources, IT, Investor Relations, Exploration, Geology and Mine Planning, among others.

Job Description

Responsible for providing industry-leading best practices and expertise in procurement activities in accordance with Kinross policies, procedures & guidelines and professional standards. Working with site and regional stakeholders conducts activities associated with the sourcing and contracting of specific goods/services consistent with specified scope of work, quality and time at lowest total cost of ownership.

Proficient with contract and stakeholder management from inception and throughout the lifecycle for prominent commodities, services and professional consulting type contracts (i.e., giant tires, grinding media, diesel fuel, explosives, chemicals, engineering services, information technology, etc.). May provide support for areas including Operations Strategy, Engineering, Energy, Technical Services and Continuous Improvement.

As a subject matter expert you will be relied upon to identify, analyze and articulate macroeconomic trends as they pertain to the commodities portfolio for Kinross’ operational success.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for executing strategies for assigned Kinross global categories.
  • Provide strategic leadership and “hands-on” support for site and regional categories including strategic sourcing, contracting and supplier management activities in collaboration with stakeholders across multiple spend categories.
  • Manage Indirect spend categories for Corporate functions acting as Procurement Process Coordinator.
  • Participate and support Capital projects procurement as required.
  • Develop category management practices that create value through the execution of sourcing and contracting strategies that meet objectives for safety, quality, security of supply, and lowest total cost of ownership by working collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure optimal results are delivered consistently.
  • Leads and/or supports specific Kinross global categories, which may include OEM Equipment, OTR Tires, Explosives, Grinding Media, and Cyanide.
  • Leads the continuous improvement and execution of Kinross’ category management strategy and guidelines.
  • Supports the development and execution of site and regional category management and procurement programs and activities.
  • Acts as Procurement Process Coordinator leading the sourcing, procurement and contracting activities for specific Corporate indirect spend categories.
  • Supports best practice sharing and process improvements designed to support procurement capacity building across Kinross supply chain operations.
  • Act as SME for all aspects of category management, strategic sourcing and contracting with Kinross operations, corporate functions and suppliers.
  • Develops and maintains an understanding of current and future business needs to ensure category profiles are up to date and reflect trends in the global market place.
  • Builds collaborative relationships with corporate functions, Site operations, Supply Chain Leads and their teams and category specific suppliers and vendors.
  • Develops skills and abilities of indirect reports while serving as a champion and mentor for all resources in the global supply chain organization.

Education and Experience

Education

  • Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in Business, Supply Chain, Accounting or a related field.
  • Accreditation as a Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP), or similar designation, considered an asset.

Experience

  • 7 to 10 years of successful Supply Chain relevant industry experience with demonstrated category management, strategic sourcing and contracting skills.
  • Global working experience and influence in mining, heavy industry or natural resources is preferred.
  • Experience with Contract Lifecycle Management software is an asset.
  • Record of Accomplishment for delivering results leveraging business acumen preferably gained in the resource, energy, or heavy manufacturing sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of contracting and category management techniques and tools with appreciation of international supply markets.

Skills

  • Knowledge with ERP systems, Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications
  • Must have a strong command of the English language (written and spoken)
  • Must have experience writing and negotiating commercial/business terms in contracts, as well as OPEX related contract management
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Project procurement experience an asset but not required

  • Strong problem solving skills with the ability to transform data into information and lead change
  • Proven ability to work across all disciplines and levels of the organization.
