Our programs

The Centre’s programs include:
Global Analysis: Developing research and tools to measure societies’ treatment of diversity and track trends to support the implementation of more inclusive policies and practices around the world

Educating for Pluralism: Supporting educators to advance pluralism within the classroom as well as throughout educational systems and institutions

Global Pluralism Award: Celebrating and supporting the work of worldwide champions working to build more peaceful societies that respect differences

Peace and Conflict: Applying a pluralism lens to support peace processes around the world

About the position

The Manager, Communications and Public Affairs reports to the Secretary General of the Global Centre for Pluralism. The Secretary General has overall responsibility for the leadership, operational excellence and financial sustainability of the Centre, which is governed by an international Board of Directors, chaired by His Highness the Aga Khan.

The Manager, Communications and Public Affairs works closely with program staff to deliver professional, high-calibre events, such as the Annual Pluralism Lecture and Global Pluralism Award ceremony; to produce the Centre’s corporate communications including the Annual Report and Corporate Plan; and to reach global audiences with the Centre’s products and resources using a wide range of tools including social media, the website, newsletters and the media.

This position may require international and domestic travel (under safe conditions with respect to COVID-19), as well as work on occasional weekends and evenings.

Role and responsibilities

The Manager of Communications and Public Affairs, reporting to the Secretary General, will:

Manage the Centre’s communications strategies and brand identity;

Lead the public events programs, including public engagement activities at the Centre’s headquarters at 330 Sussex Drive, once permitted to reopen to the public;

Produce the Annual Report and Corporate Plan;

Manage the Centre’s virtual presence on its website and social media channels;

Report to the Board of Directors and other key stakeholders about the communications and public affairs portfolio;

Develop and monitor the communications budget;

Support the development of communications products and campaigns in collaboration with the program teams;

Supervise the work of the Communications and Public Affairs Coordinator, in addition to short-term interns and consultants;

Other duties, as required.

Skills and experience

The ideal candidate will be a skilled, digital-savvy communicator, with strong attention to detail and organizational skills, a positive attitude and who is at ease balancing competing priorities and multiple ongoing projects. The candidate will be committed to the values of pluralism as a positive response to diversity.

Specifically, this individual will possess:
A minimum of 5 years of experience delivering and implementing communications/public affairs programs

Experience in developing and deploying social media to expand organisational reach, including targeting and growing audiences

Experience in developing a variety of communications products and campaigns for different audiences

Experience in media relations

Experience in managing staff, consultants and service providers

Exceptional written and verbal communications skills in English

A post-secondary degree, or a combination of training and experience, in communications, journalism, international relations, international development, history, political science, and/or public policy.

Assets:
Ability to read, write and communicate orally in French

Additional languages: Spanish, Arabic
